Owen Hargreaves believes former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes was “mentally” a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo - insisting the midfielder was always “two steps ahead of everybody else”.

Scholes emerged from United’s famous Class of 92 academy side to become one of the greatest players in the club’s decorated history, scoring 155 goals in 718 appearances and winning 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and as many Champions Leagues.

While Ronaldo only spent six years at Old Trafford, the Portuguese is also considered a Red Devils great having netted 118 goals in 292 appearances before sealing a then-world-record £80m switch to Real Madrid.
