The Oscars has launched a formal review after "condemning" Will Smith's behaviour after he punched Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday evening.
A statement released by the Academy said they would "explore further action and consequences" in association with California law and their own body's standards of conduct. "The Academy condemns the actions of Mr.
Smith at last night's show," the statement began about the 53 year old's physical altercation with the show's host, Chris. "We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law." This comes just hours after reports emerged that The Academy was reportedly holding "emergency talks" to discuss whether Will should be stripped of his Best Actor gong following his behaviour during the ceremony on Sunday evening.
It has been claimed that Oscar bosses are split over whether to punish Will by taking away the Oscar he won for his role in King Richard. "Once the ceremony was over, they called in key members to hold an emergency meeting about what action they should take," it was reported.
