Olympic running legend Ron Hill dies at the age of 82 after dementia battle

Olympic running legend Ron Hill has died at the age of 82, it has been announced. The British athlete was only the second man to break the two hour 10 minute marathon barrier.

Hill ran every day for over 52 years between 1963 and 2017 - to this day the longest such streak in history. He broke world records at four different distances and represented Great Britain in the marathon at two Olympic Games - Tokyo 1964 and Munich 1972.

He founded the company Ron Hill Sports, focusing on running clothes and fabrics. Born in Accrington, Lancashire, Hill - who graduated from the University of Manchester with a PhD in textile chemistry - also founded Hilly Clothing which specialised in socks.
