Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had previously hinted that youngster Joe Hugill was in line for his Manchester United debut before Amad.
The Ivorian came off the bench to make his first appearance for the Red Devils in their Europa League win over Real Sociedad on Thursday night.
Amad only arrived at the club in January having been allowed to remain at Atalanta for the first half of the season. The teenager arrived with high expectations and hit the ground running with the U23s.
He scored twice, including a Panenka penalty, as United stuck six past rivals Liverpool - but it was Hugill who got the other four.
