However, for the part of ‘Lizzie James’ in Deceit, a new four-part drama for Channel 4, there was a particular problem. ‘Lizzie’ was the undercover police officer who posed in a honeytrap to incriminate Colin Stagg, the man suspected of the brutal 1992 murder of 23-year-old Rachel Nickell – in front of her toddler son – on Wimbledon Common.
It was a case that horrified the nation. As part of the operation, ‘Lizzie’ spent more than five months trying to obtain information from Stagg after contacting him through a lonely-hearts ad.
