Juneteenth is becoming an official holiday in more than one state.On Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that he would be making June 19 a holiday in his state.
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam also announced Tuesday that Juneteenth — a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. — will be an official holiday in a state that was once home to the capital of the Confederacy.Juneteenth, which is also called Emancipation Day and Freedom Day, is celebrated annually on June 19.
