New report reveals half a tonne of waste generated by every person in Wishaw

Get the stories that matter to you sent straight to your inbox with our daily newsletter.Every person in Wishaw generates almost half a tonne of waste a year – that’s the equivalent weight of a small dairy cow.Statistical data released by SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) has revealed that households in North Lanarkshire generated 0.44 tonnes of household waste per person during 2019.

Of that, 90kg goes to landfill – that’s the same as the average person in Scotland as a whole.In North Lanarkshire a total of 149,977 tonnes of waste was generated, 60,462 tonnes of that was recycled which accounts for 40.3 per cent of the total.
