A new public garden is to be created in Kilmarnock town centre. The “sensory” green space would be located on the site of the old Mothercare shop in King Street.East Ayrshire Council has spent £500,000 buying numbers 121 to 135 on the shopping strip for demolition.Children from Willowbank and Park schools, and nurseries, would be involved in the design of the garden for the area along with others. It would particularly cater for people with disabilities. The council is going to spend up to £200,000 from the common good fund on the garden. The move means nearly all of the town’s common good fund – which stands at £240,966 – would be used.A total of £6,256 within the fund is untouchable and classed as unusable reserves.
