New baffling type of optical illusion causes viewers to spot dazzling rays

Optical illusions are made to baffle the brain and this latest one could leave you scratching your head for days. The Scintillating Starburst illusion is an image of concentric polygons that makes people see non-existent rays of light.It causes the brain to connect the spaces between the polygons to make it seem as though a beam of light is radiating from them.

Michael Karlovich, founder of art company Recurisa, published his latest study in i-Perception with neuroscientist Pascal Wallisch.

He set out to create a symbolic logo that he soon realised turned into something else, an effect he called Scintillating Starburst.When looking at this illusion, your brain can really go on a trip through your eyes.And Michael knew he was looking at.
