The 20-year-old victim was on Rosebery Street when he was attacked and suffered wounds to the upper body. The Manchester Evening News understands at least three shots were fired but police have also been told up to seven were heard.
The man was driven to Manchester Royal Infirmary where he underwent surgery last night. Police are still trying to establish if the shooting was a drive-by or if the gunman arrived on foot - due to conflicting eye witness accounts.
Police were called to reports of the shooting at around 8.20pm last night and today the victim is said to be in a stable condition.
