England's worst coronavirus hotspots continue to show huge rises in the number of new cases, alarming data shows. Sunderland has seen the sharpest rise, with the city catapulted into seventh place on the worst-affect area list - following a sevenfold rise in just a week.
Solihull in the Midlands has seen its rate multiply by six, while Hyndburn in Lancashire has also emerged as a hotspot after its infection rate nearly trebled.
Liverpool, Leeds, Bury and Hartlepool were also among the areas that saw huge jumps. Latest data from Public Health England reveal that there are 235 local authority areas with an infection rate of more than 10 per 100,000, .
