Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has axed Ainsley Maitland-Niles for failing to meet his high standards at the club, according to reports.
Right-back Maitland-Niles hasn't featured for the Gunners in the Premier League since January, despite Hector Bellerin being in and out of the team with an injury.
Instead, Arteta has been playing natural centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos out of position on the right to fill the void, rather than start Maitland-Niles.
During this time the Greek has done exactly that - filled a void - but Arsenal haven't had an attacking threat, nor any pace, from the right hand side, and are missing Bellerin.
