Michael Carrick has revealed that he had a 'good chat' with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the forward being dropped to the bench.
Ronaldo has started in the majority of Manchester United's games this season and his goals have been invaluable for the club.
The 36-year-old has 10 goals and two assists in 15 games across all competitions, however, some of those goals - like his late strikes against Villarreal and Atalanta in the Champions League - have carried great importance in regards to the outcome of the match.
Ronaldo's omission from United's starting line-up against Chelsea is therefore surprising and it's certainly a brave call from Carrick.
