Met Office forecasts Platinum Jubilee sizzler with Brits to bake in 22C heat

Platinum Jubilee revellers will get to raise a glass to the Queen in balmy 22C sunshine – much warmer than the Diamond Jubilee or coronation, forecasters say.

Even the weather is lining up to salute Her Majesty on Thursday, with scientists predicting the nicest day in more than 70 years for a royal jubilee or coronation.

The monarch will naturally bag the warmest temperatures near her London home.But the clear skies will extend throughout her kingdom, with temperatures set to reach 19C in the North and 17C in Scotland.

A Met Office forecaster said: “After sunny spells and showers early in the week, Thursday is likely to see most places dry with sunny spells. Find out everything you need to know about the Platinum Jubilee by clicking here“The following days see the chance of unsettled weather in the south, with the North likely to be drier.”Thursday will be twice as warm as the Queen’s coronation day in 1953, when temperatures dropped to a rainy 10C.The pleasant conditions will continue into the Bank Holiday weekend, with some showers expected in the south.Last night royal-watchers breathed a sigh of relief, after almost a century of washout weather blighting the Queen’s anniversaries.They had feared a repeat of the torrential downpours that soaked 2012’s Diamond Jubilee.That rain was so heavy, hundreds of people needed to be checked for hypothermia during the Thames boat pageant.Kirsty McCabe, of the Royal Meteorological Society, said: “Rain has affected many royal occasions over the years.
