Men save more than twice as much for their pension than women by the time they hit retirement, new research has shown. The average man has £235,000 locked away before they stop working, while women have just £100,000.
The stark figures are contained in a report that also reveals the average weekly pension income for retired men has shot up, but for women it has gone down.
Single male pensioners under 75 pocketed £441 a week last year – up from £383 in 2014-15. But women in the same age bracket only earned £333 from their pension each week – down from £367 five years ago.
All this means today retired men are £108 a week better off, the analysis by digital wealth advisory firm Fintuity has found.
