'They don’t have the issues we do!' James Martin hits back at criticism over use of butter
James Martin, 49, is a stickler when it comes to butter, and he's the first person to jump at the chance to explain the benefits of using the yummy ingredient to anyone who says anything bad about it.But he noted that the UK has become very conscious over weight, even more so in recent years, and butter has become a feared cooking component."It's everything in balance and moderation", he explained to the many people who worry about the health impacts using butter will have."We have this obsession in the UK, this up and down with weight, while the rest of Europe and the whole world eats butter."They consume more of it than us and they don’t have the issues that we do!"He continued to tell the Scotsman: "At the end of the day, it's a natural ingredient, not manufactured."And fans can tell just how passionate he is about it all, especially after releasing his latest book of the same name, full of delicious buttery recipes.But you definitely cannot ask James if margarine is an OK alternative."It contains up to 30 ingredients, half of which you won't even know what they are," he retorted."Even doctors are saying that their advice in the Seventies to eat margarine was wrong."I don’t want to eat something when I don’t know what it is."But he quickly added: "However, I will never lecture others and say, eat this, try this and do that."I've never been one of those people that stands with a placard and shouts and screams."People have a choice."James revealed he has been using butter to cook with for over 30 years on TV, and his new book was very well received indeed."The publishers wanted something about cooking at home, and I thought, why don’t we do an ingredient-led book," the Saturday Morning host smiled."The response has been
