Chelsea boss Frank Lampard made quite the statement on the final day of the Premier League season, dropping Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The world’s most expensive goalkeeper, at a cool £71million, was ditched for Willy Caballero in the Blues’ crunch clash with Wolves.
It was bold from Lampard, who knew pre-game that only a victory would guarantee a place in next season’s Champions League. But after Kepa’s display in the 5-3 loss at Liverpool, in which Chelsea defenders notably rounded on the Spaniard during one second-half moment when he failed to command his penalty area, Lampard felt he had no choice.
He explained it away on Sunday as “just a choice” but it was the latest sign that Lampard has fully lost faith in the Spanish international.
