Dayot Upamecano replaced Varane, who could be seen with strapping on his thigh whilst sat on the France bench. Varane is expected to undergo a scan when he reports at United's Carrington training complex on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old's injury poses a potential defensive dilemma for United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been without Harry Maguire for the last two games due to an ankle injury.
