Former Manchester United midfielder David Beckham has been urged to speak out about the "deeply concerning human rights situation in Qatar", following reports that he has agreed to become an ambassador for football in the country.
That is according to Amnesty International UK’s CEO Sacha Deshmukh, who wants Beckham — who is reportedly set to be an ambassador for next year's 2022 FIFA World Cup — to address the human rights issues in the country.
According Amnesty International, the Qatari authorities have failed to investigate the deaths of thousands of migrant workers over the past 10 years even though evidence has been provided of links between premature deaths and unsafe, searingly-hot working conditions.
