Manchester councillor quits party after Lib Dems accuse him of 'unacceptable and obstructive' behaviour - but he says he knows nothing about it

One of Manchester’s three Liberal Democrat councillors has left the party following an investigation into ‘unacceptable behaviour’ – something he strenuously denies.

Coun Greg Stanton says he resigned over ‘political differences’ with the group and its leader Coun John Leech, and disputed ever being under investigation.

But in a statement the Lib Dems said a ‘series of investigations’ had been made into the Didsbury West councillor’s alleged conduct while a member of the group.

A spokesperson for the party claimed that Coun Stanton’s behaviour ‘continued to be unacceptable and obstructive during this process’. “He has fallen well short of our party’s values and expectations, and it will no longer be tolerated,” they added. “We’re sorry
