Andy Burnham has accused the government of giving Greater Manchester 'no real notice' of last Sunday's announcement which saw lockdown measures eased and a return to work in certain industries encouraged.
The mayor of Greater Manchester said it was 'far from a planned, safety-led approach' and the announcement 'felt more suited to the south than to the north'.
In a hard-hitting comment piece, Mr Burnham derided what he called the government's now 'London-centric mode' and called for regional mayors like him to sit on the Cobra emergency council.
He also hit out at a lack of rescue funding for Manchester's transport system and said fresh financial cuts would hit town halls in the north.
