Manchester council urges government to keep 'crucial' Universal Credit uplift

Claimants have been given a £20-a-week boost to their welfare benefits since last April as part of measures to help people through the Covid-19 pandemic.

But the government intends to end the extra funding, which costs £6bn a year, on October 6 despite calls for it to be made permanent.
