At his heaviest, Joseph Ruthven was so ashamed of his size that he was terrified to go outside. He was embarrassed to see his friends, and sitting indoors made him so unhappy that he gorged on unhealthy food and snacks, making it a vicious circle.
Treating himself to a takeaway and up to 10 cans of fizzy drink every day saw his weight jump to 30st 6lbs last year - until he decided enough was enough.
