Manchester City reportedly looked into signing Romelu Lukaku last summer as they searched for a replacement for Sergio Aguero.
Aguero, 32, looks set to end his City stay when his contract expires next summer after 10 years of service, over 250 goals scored and 10 major honours won.
The Argentine ace may decide to follow manager Pep Guardiola's lead by signing an extension, but there are serious concerns over his fitness issues.
Aguero has made just three appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once, and has been plagued by a variety of hamstring, knee and groin injuries in recent seasons.
