On Saturday (September 11) police received reports of a car travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway. Officers tried to intercept the car - which was driving southwards down the northbound carriageway - at around junction 33 after it was spotted close to junction 34 for Lancaster. READ MORE: Manchester Airport on why it had to temporarily shut as planes forced to divert But they failed in their attempts to stop the car - and it was only brought to a halt 44 miles after being spotted, at junction 27 for Standish, in Wigan.
