The UK's biggest airport group is set to axe 892 jobs in Manchester, London Stansted and the East Midlands as coronavirus continues to hammer the travel industry.
The Manchester Airport Group (MAG) said it has entered consultation with hundreds of workers, as travel demand remains low amid a second rise in coronavirus cases.
The company said the decision follows a 90% reduction in demand for travel since March, compared with last year. It said between April and August it welcomed just 2.8million customers, compared to over 30million in 2019.
The company said aviation has been one of the hardest hit sectors of the economy with monthly demand is still 75% below "normal" levels.
