The seven cities shortlisted to possibly host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in the UK have been revealed.

Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield have been unveiled as the seven shortlisted UK cities to battle it out to host next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Eurovision 2023 will be forced to cancel a number of other scheduled events at its chosen venue in order to make room for next year’s annual song contest.The UK, whose entrant Sam Ryder finished second to Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra in this year’s competition, will host Eurovision 2023 on behalf of Ukraine due to the ongoing war in the latter country.The shortlist of potential host cities is set to be announced tomorrow (August 12), with Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol, Sheffield and Birmingham all thought to be in contention.Any hopeful host city must have a 10,000-capacity arena “that should be within easy reach of an international airport and with ample hotel accommodation”, according to the guidelines that have been shared by host broadcaster the BBC and organisers the European Broadcasting Union.However, as BBC News reports, no large arena in the UK currently has enough of a gap in its listings to host Eurovision in May 2023.A number of council leaders have told the BBC that the competition’s organisers would need access to the selected venue six to eight weeks ahead of the contest, meaning that a number of already-scheduled live events at said venue would need to be scrapped or rescheduled in order to accommodate Eurovision.Artists including Elton John, Celine Dion and André Rieu are set to be touring in a number of the UK’s arena cities in April and May 2023.

Declan Donnelly has paid an emotional tribute to his brother, as he admitted that his family still “can’t believe he’s gone”. The much loved Father, who had recently celebrated 30 years of service in the Catholic church was laid to rest on Friday, as hundreds of mourners gathered at St Mary’s Cathedral in Newcastle to say their final goodbyes, with more than 2,000 people also watching Fr Dermott’s Requiem Mass via a livestream.

Declan Donnelly was supported by his best friend and TV co-star Ant McPartlin at the funeral for his late brother, Father Dermot Donnelly.Donnelly was amongst the mourners carrying the coffin of his brother, Father Dermott Donnelly into St Mary’s Cathedral in Newcastle for a Requiem Mass.McPartlin was also pictured ahead of the service, which took place on Friday, alongside his wife Ann-Marie Corbett.The pair were both snapped looking sombre as they paid their final respects to Donnelly’s older brother.Catholic priest, Fr Donnelly, died aged 55 after he suffered a sudden serious illness.His death was announced on July 8 by the Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle, who said in a statement that the priest had ‘died peacefully this afternoon in hospital.’The Bishop said the news has ‘come as a great shock to all of us’, adding: ‘Please pray for the repose of his soul and keep his family, especially his mother, in your prayers at this difficult time.’His devastated brother later confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: ‘I am heartbroken to tell you that my darling brother Fr Dermott, @TweeterPriest, sadly passed away this afternoon.‘We are all beyond devastated.

Eurovision.Earlier this week, The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) confirmed that the BBC will be hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in the UK on behalf of this year’s winners, Ukraine.Organisers revealed last month that they were in talks with the BBC to bring the event to the UK. The winning country of the annual song competition usually hosts the following year’s event and despite Ukraine’s folk-rap entry Kalush Orchestra topping the table, it was announced earlier this month that the EBU would be looking for a different country to stage the event in 2023 due to the ongoing war with Russia.In a lengthy statement, EBU explained the reasons why Ukraine couldn’t host the 2023 event.
