Locals 'scared to go out' as tourists turn Cornwall into 'Benidorm on steroids'

Locals in Cornwall claim they are scared to leave their homes after an influx of tourists have turned the area into 'Benidorm on steroids'.

Fed up residents have taken to social media to express their concerns as street marshals have been out patrolling hotspots to remind visitors that they must social distancing.

There are also warning signs in place. Claire Harris, 37, who lives in St Ives and manages holiday lets, told the BBC she has banned her children from the town's main street and harbour because of the hordes of people and said other parents she knows feel the same.

Jonathan Pitts, who also manages holiday lets, said: "Sadly I think a lot [of tourists] have the same attitude - that they've come to escape it (Covid-19)." Vicky
