Liverpool could bank more than £20m this summer after inserting a 30 per cent sell-on clause into the deal which saw Luis Alberto depart Anfield for Lazio back in 2016.
The Reds' famed sporting director Michael Edwards was part of the team which convinced club chiefs to shell out £6.8m on the Spaniard in 2013, believing he had the potential to become an integral part of the first team.
However, Alberto never quite found his feet in England, making just nine appearances and getting sent out on loan to Malaga and Deportivo.
After three years, Liverpool decided to cut their losses and sold him to Lazio for around £4.3m but not before negotiating the sell-on clause.
