LINE of Duty's Daniel Mays has revealed he was 'gutted' about his character's shock season three death. The 42-year-old actor joined the hit BBC drama for its third season as Sergeant Danny Waldron, but only lasted one episode.

In those 60 minutes, Danny achieved a lot as he shared a kiss with Rachel O'Connor and had chance to share his heartbreaking backstory about growing up in a care home.

Sadly he was shot and killed before the credits could roll, making season three, episode one his first and last appearance on the show.

Speaking about his short stint on the series, Daniel admitted he was "gutted" about Danny's death, even though he knew it would happen when he signed up for the role.
