SPFL chief Neil Doncaster has explained why loans could not be paid out to clubs to avoid financial armageddon. A resolution was passed to end the lower league seasons early, allowing prize money to be paid out to clubs.
That also gave the SPFL board the power to end the top flight on the same basis at a later date. That would see Celtic crowned champions, and Rangers had put forward a resolution asking for loans to be given to clubs instead, to be repaid at the end of the season.
That was not deemed competent, but in an interview with the BBC Hearts chief Ann Budge said she had overseen loans to clubs during her time on the SPFL board.
