Lady Antebellum have changed their name in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. The much-loved country-pop trio have renounced the name of their band because they are "embarrassed" and "regretful" for not taking into consideration the name's associations with slavery.
Antebellum referred to a period of time which includes slavery. Singers Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott - who formed the band in 2006 - took to social media to reveal their new name.
As of today, the band will be known as Lady A. The trio took to Twitter to explain the reasoning behind their sudden change of mind following the tragic death of George Floyd. "As a band, we have strived for our music to be a refuge … inclusive of all" the statement began.
