Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Labour will vote for Boris Johnson's Brexit deal, Keir Starmer announces

Labour will back Boris Johnson's Brexit deal despite its many flaws, Keir Starmer has said. Mr Johnson said the deal reached with the European Union will help protect jobs and provide certainty to businesses.

Mr Starmer was less than generous about that "thin " arrangement - but he said the British people "would never forgive" them if they allowed no deal to go ahead.

But he stressed "responsibility for this deal lies at the door of No10". The Prime Minister said the agreement resolves the European question which has “bedevilled” British politics for generations.

Earlier in a Downing Street press conference Mr Johnson said the UK had managed to “take back control” as promised in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
