Kate Garraway suffers more agony as Covid-hit husband's firm goes bust with £200k debt

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has been forced to shut down her husband's firm after it racked up thousands of pounds worth of debt.Kate, 54, was forced to close husband Derek Draper's firm after its debt hit almost £200,000 following his long battle with Covid.

Derek, 52, has had severe long-term effects and health problems from Covid since he caught the virus back in 2020.Kate lost her battle to save Derek's psychotherapy company Astra Aspera Limited as it owes debts of up to £184,000 and has outstanding taxes of up to £125,000.A friend close to the couple told the Daily Mail: "It's terribly sad, but Derek can't work and has no prospect of being able to do so in the near future, so Kate thought it best to close it down."A liquidator was appointed on Tuesday to break up the firm's assets.Last year, the GMB presenter was appointed director after her husband's health deteriorated.

Speaking about the treatment required for Derek, Kate told This Morning's Holly and Phil during an appearance on the daytime show that the carers who have supported him and her family are "extraordinary".Holly commented: "That's what what really struck me about it is the amount of care he needs.

Like this is around the clock isn't it?"Kate replied: "Yeah and because of his extreme health needs, he does have 24-hour care so somebody has to be awake at night and somebody has to be awake during the day and I can't be awake 24 hours so it's fantastic to have that."It comes after Kate was snubbed from the BAFTAs when her Caring for Derek documentary was overlooked in the nominations.The documentary showed their lives as he returned home to live with Kate and their children, Darcey and Billy, following his treatment.The Good Morning Britain.
