The jury tasked with listening in on Jussie Smollett’s trial against allegations he staged an elaborate hate crime against himself heard closing arguments from Smollett’s defense team and prosecutors on Wednesday before breaking out to deliberate on a verdict in the tense court battle.
During the final statements, the defense and prosecution did not hold back in making their cases regarding their assumptions to Smollett’s alleged involvement in what prosecutors now believe was a hate crime hoax orchestrated by the former "Empire" actor – whom their star witnesses, brothers Abimbola and Olabingo Osundairo – testified paid them $3,500 to carry out in the wee hours of a frigid Chicago winter in January 2019.
