Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Philippe Coutinho was open to staying at Liverpool before sealing a £142m move to Barcelona, but in the end there was “no chance” of keeping him at the club.
Coutinho, 27, completed a lucrative switch to the Nou Camp in January 2018 after developing into one of European football’s most talented midfielders in his time at Anfield.
Yet the Brazilian’s dream move to Spain has quickly turned into a nightmare, with Barca sending him out on loan to Bayern Munich this season having failed to impress in his first year-and-a-half at the club.
His form has slightly improved in Germany, but reports suggest Bayern are not interested in signing him on a permanent basis.
