Associated with passion, power and romance, the Sanskrit word for ruby translates as 'king of precious stones'.The most valuable rubies are old stones mined in Burma; untreated examples of 'pigeon's blood' colour and exceptional clarity have achieved record prices of over $1 million per carat at auction.Rubies are also found in Mozambique, India and across south-east Asia, with colours ranging from pinkish to deep red.
