John Kear has called on the RFL to use part of its £16million government loan to prevent a player drain from the sport. The Bradford Bulls and Wales coach is worried that the expected scrapping of the re-introduced reserve grade will see a host of players lost to the game.
Instead he wants the governing body to provide grants to clubs that had committed to this year’s competition to help avoid that scenario.
Kear said: “I felt the game was going in the right direction again this year with a first grade, reserves and under-18s system. “The reserve grade has been curtailed this year and straight away there’s going to be a high number of players that were recruited by clubs not able to play. “At our club we signed 15 players to feature mainly
