His new drama, “The Card Counter,” debuts at the Venice Film Festival. He’s previously plumbed the dark depths of the soul in works like “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull.”In Schrader’s next outing, Edgerton will star as the master gardener of an American estate who is forced to confront his dark past.
