ITV issues statement after claims it used banned crayfish on I'm a Celebrity

Gwrych Castle in Abergele. The organisation said that it had identified Turkish crayfish in footage of the fifth episode of I'm a Celebrity last year and added that the "invasive non-native species" is "strictly controlled" in the UK.

The charity, devoted to the conservation of all invertebrates, said that keeping the crustacean requires a licence and alleged that it's investigation found that ITV didn't appear to have obtained the licence.

North Wales Live understands that the issue relates to the the Prohibition of Keeping of Live Fish (Crayfish) Order 1996, under which it's an offence to keep non-native crayfish without obtaining a valid licence.
