union official fired as he fought cuts to workers’ sick pay. Representatives from some of Scotland’s largest unions and campaigners leafleted customers of the Swedish furniture giant calling for them to back sacked shop steward Richie Venton.
Mr Venton was fired after fighting cuts which would have seen many IKEA staff surviving on only £95 a week statutory sick pay if they become ill during the global pandemic.
Leading the protest, Brian Garvey of the Strathclyde University and College Union (UCU) said he was “appalled” at the treatment of Mr Venton who has worked for IKEA for 12 years.He said: “This is union busting at its worst.
