Cardin's family released a statement to the BBC regarding the designer's death and said: "It is a day of great sadness for all our family.
Pierre Cardin is no more . . . We are all proud of his tenacious ambition and the daring he has shown throughout his life. "As noted by the BBC, the French fashion giant was born in 1922 in Italy, but spent most of his youth in Saint Etienne, France, where he later established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the fashion world.
