Hot dogs denote summer, beach barbecues, letting go. Until the second lockdown last year I’d never made hot dogs at home. Then, meals that were fun and lazy and a bit of a treat became a ‘thing’.Eating hot dogs in the garden – even in the cold – was a glorious indulgence, a break from the norm, our own short holiday.
My dogs were pretty plain – sausages and fried onions – but I did buy sweet, hot German mustard to slather on top.Nobody knows the exact origin of the hot dog.
