Clinton Parren, his partner and three children who were in the terraced house in Wythenshawe all miraculously escaped unharmed following the 'tremendous' explosion.
Parren put a gas canister 'barely bigger than a can of coke', which he'd bought to cook soup with his children outside, on a cooker hob in the kitchen before turning the hob on.
The resulting explosion, which caused 'extreme chaos' and 'sheer panic,' blew out windows, lifted ceilings from their mounts and brought doors off their hinges, but miraculously no-one was hurt.
