Emergency roadworks on a major Salford thoroughfare have caused traffic mayhem in the area. Chorley Road was closed yesterday (November 21) around the junction with Moorside Road in Swinton by United Utilities, with residents reportedly being told that the work was necessary to fix a burst water main.
According to Salford council, the road will be cordoned off until next Monday, November 27. Images on social media show extensive barriers in place for the closure, which stretches from the crossroads with Moorside Road to the A6’s junction with Charles Street.
As it is closed in both directions, it means there has been heavy congestion. Stagecoach, which operates the route, said: “Due to Emergency Road closure on Chorley Road in Swinton, service 38 will be diverting via Moorside Road, East Lancs Road, Worsley Road in both directions.” Shortly before 5pm on Tuesday, it added: “Route 38.
