Liverpool added a fifth five minutes after the break as United finished the game with 10-men after Paul Pogba was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Naby Keita.
Solskjaer headed into Sunday's game under immense pressure after a string of bad results and the proceeding 90 minutes would have done little to help his argument of staying in the Old Trafford dugout long term.
