The head of the Government's legal department has quit over Boris Johnson's plan to rewrite his own Brexit deal. Sir Jonathan Jones has reportedly quit the senior civil service position amid a dispute over Downing Street's plans to row back on sections of the deal relating to Northern Ireland.
According to the Financial Times, Sir Jonathan said he was "very unhappy" about the decision to rewrite parts of the 2019 Withdrawal Agreement's Northern Ireland protocol.
Sir Jonathan's resignation makes him the sixth senior civil servant to leave government this year, and comes as crunch Brexit talks were about to get underway.
