Government forced to respond to petition on free TV licences for pensioners

Ministers will be forced to explain why millions of pensioners were stripped of free TV licences after a petition crossed a crucial threshold.

More than 10,000 people have signed an online petition blasting a broken Conservative election pledge to protect free TV licences for over-75s.

Passing the milestone will trigger a Government response. The petition was launched by the Silver Voices campaign group.
