Good Morning Britain fans were left baffled this morning after the ITV show was taken off air. Viewers who usually tune into the news programme from 6am every weekday were surprised to see the show removed from the usual schedule entirely on Friday (July 21).

Instead of hearing the latest news bulletins from the likes of Susanna Reid, Richard Madeley, Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard, ITV viewers were instead treated to a match from the FIFA Women's World Cup.

From 5:50am until 8:05am, the broadcaster aired live coverage of the Philippines v Switzerland match. With GMB usually taking up a three hour slot until 9am, ITV then proceeded to air a repeat episode of Bradley Walsh's The Chase before Lorraine kicked off as normal at 9am. But it is clear that viewers who were hoping to catch their latest news fix on Friday were left disappointed to see women's football in its replacement.
