George Russell apologised to Max Verstappen after taking pole position for Hungarian GP

George Russell shocked the F1 world by storming to pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix.Entering the final seconds of Q3 at the Hungaroring, it looked like being a Ferrari front-row lockout with Carlos Sainz ahead of Charles Leclerc.

However, Russell then conjured up the lap of his career to date to stick his Mercedes on pole.The Ferraris had to settle for second and third, with McLaren’s Lando Norris fourth.

Russell’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton, had to settle for seventh following a DRS problem while world championship leader Max Verstappen qualified down in 10th after suffering an engine problem with his Red Bull which prompted a power unit change ahead of the race.
